Endo (b. 1947, Tokyo, Japan) received both his bachelors and masters
degrees from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. In 1968
he won the Japan Music Competition. He also received the Ongaku No Tomosha
Composition Award (1972) and first prize at the Theatrical Arts Competition
sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan (1979). Endo has participated
in various festivals including Asian Composers League Conference (Taipei,
1986), ISCM World Music Days (Zurich, 1991), Electronic Music Festival (Stockholm,
1991), Asian Music Festival (Sendai, 1992), Japan in Zurich (1993), Rioja
International Festival (1997), Krakow Music Week (1998), "Heart of
Japan" Music Festival (Moscow, 2000), and Federation Music Week (Melbourne,
2001). In 2002, his violin concerto Gyre of Fertility was performed
in Targu Mures in a concert to commemorate 100 years of diplomatic relations
between Japan and Romania. Endo is currently on the board of the Japan Federation
of Composers, while also serving as the Director of Public Relations and
board member for the Japan Society for Contemporary Music. |
