| Miyuki
Ito (b. 1968, Nagoya, Japan) received her B.A. from Aichi Prefectural
University of Fine Arts and Music, her M.A. from Manhattan School of Music,
and her D.M.A. from Columbia University. She studied composition with Naoyuki
Terai, Pierre Charvet, Philippe Leroux and Tristan Murail. With an artist
grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan, Ito pursued further
research into electronic music at IRCAM (Paris) from 2001-02. Her awards
and honors include the Kanagawa Prefecture Choral Composition Competition
(1995), Abbott Chamber Players Composition Contest (1996), Boris and Edna
Rapoport Prize (2000), Nagoya Bunka-Shinko Award (2004) and fellowships
from the Centre Acanthes (1999-2000) and Darmstadt Ferienkurse (2000). Ito
has been commissioned by the Harmonia Opera Company (New York), the Tokyo
Opera City, and the Kagayaki Hall in Taketoyo, Japan. Her chamber piece
Fading Beauty... received its premiere at Carnegie's Weill Hall and
was performed again at the ISCM World Music Days 2002 (Hong Kong), while
Réminiscence d'un ancien esprit for soprano/small percussion
and electronics was given its premiere at Résonances 2002 (Paris)
and was selected for the 2004 International Computer Music Conference (Miami).
Ito was accepted into the 2005 Djerassi Artist Residency in California with
an Oshita Fellowship. Most recently, she received the Encouragement Award
from the Japan Symphony Foundation as one of four finalists for the 27th
Japan Composition Award. She currently teaches at the Aichi Prefectural
University of Fine Arts and Music and Nagoya University of Arts in Japan. |
