Founded by Naoyuki Miura, MUSIC FROM JAPAN is now in its third decade of promoting music by contemporary Japanese composers through performances by American and Japanese musicians. The New York-based non-profit organization, in cooperation with The Japan Federation of Composers, has presented concerts throughout the Americas and Japan, introducing over 300 works, including 40 world premieres, 28 of them commissioned by MFJ.

Music From Japan Vol. 1 (CMCD-1027), our first CD featuring works by Yuji Takahashi and David Behrman can be purchased via mail order from Music From Japan (7 East 20th Street, New york, NY 10003-1106 $15 for orders within the US). In 1994, Music From Japan established the Resource Center for Japanese Music, featuring the custom designed Composer Database and Music From Japan's 20 year collection of source materials (inquiries can be filed by e-mail at: mfjrc@aol.com) Send Mail).

Past activities have included several international and coast-to-coast tours featuring internationally acclaimed soloists, and symposia covering a wide range of Japanese music-related topics. In 1995, as the culminating event of its 20th Anniversary, Music From Japan presented Kinkakuji, the first Japanese grand opera ever performed in the United States, in collaboration with New York City Opera.
